Welcome!

Hi! I’m Greg and I live in the great state of New Hampshire in what I consider to be one of the most strikingly beautiful regions of the world, New England. I’ve hiked in some way, shape or form most of my life, but I didn’t really discover my true passion for the outdoors until I started on a quest to hike all 4000 footers in NH (there are 48 of them). The list was created by the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) to bring hikers to some of the lesser climbed peaks in the state in order to alleviate the impact of the thousands of hikers who climb Mt. Washington or Franconia Ridge each year. When I started, I hadn’t heard of many of the peaks on the list, so in that regard the list did its job (why else would anyone hike 18 miles to see a pile of rocks on top of a mountain with no “official” maintained trail – looking at you Owl’s Head!) As I chipped away at the list I quickly learned that each mountain is so different and each has its own personality and like people, those personality traits are constantly changing and evolving. I love learning about them, studying them, the history of the name, geology, who climbed it first, the trails I might want to take, etc. Its a bit addicting and the list helped organize a daunting, multi-year (for me) undertaking that became so much more than getting to the summit of each of these beautiful mountains. The woods have a spiritual, therapeutic, healing quality for me and these hikes ultimately helped get me through some tough personal issues going on in my in life early in my journey. Towards the middle part of my journey I met someone who was just as eager and passionate about hiking as I was (although she didn’t know it yet) and the process of planning, and enjoying these hikes together brought us closer together and we fell in love in some of the most gorgeous sites in the state. Jen and I have had many journeys together and we plan to have many more. We’ve both kept hard copy journals of every hike we have done and the plan for this site is to ultimately post a blog for every hike in reverse chronological order. But as we hike (and we hike a lot) we will also post our most recent hikes as quick as we can while leading busy lives. Our hope is that we can inspire people to get outdoors and enjoy this beautiful world we live in, preferably with people you love.

Happy Trails / Cheers – Greg & Jen
